I imagine you with stardust in your hair and laughter lathered on your skin
Your giggle is like a hummingbird’s song and your eyes twinkle like pearls
Your little feet leave a trail of magic behind you
And on your breath float droplets of honey
The rolls on your arms are like cinnamon tarts
Your baby lips more petite than a rose bud
My favourite, can I even pick just one?
Would be your plump cheeks, like a perfect peach
Or maybe it’s the curve from your forehead to the tip of your nose
I imagine that’s where your Creator drew out the measurement oh so carefully
He was intentional to make you as cuddly as a teddy bear and as gentle as a lamb
Crafted so perfectly, the angels watched in awe
I envy all the stars and galaxies and beings that gaze upon you everyday
For I am left to imagine you with flowers in your hair and nectar on your hands
But even then my imagination comes short
The best of storytellers cannot confine your sweetness to a page
And all the artists in the world could never capture the right brush strokes of your ebony eyes
Take the most fluent poet and she’d be rendered wordless
For even now I use worldly metaphors
I clutch at synonyms and similies
Hoping to get close
Just an inch closer
To describing you
But how could I forget
That Earth and all our brokenness
Could never come close to being worthy enough of you.
